https://wish-less.com/archives/8800 —– WISH LESS galleryでは、アーティストの抜水摩耶による個展「主人公」を開催いたします。漫画的な大きな瞳を持つキャラクターが特徴的な作風で知られる抜水が、この世に無数に存在する「主人公」である人々に着目し、ポップさとダークさが入り混じるカオティックな世界観を重層的に描きます。 —– アーティスト・ステイトメント 10年前、私は京都の山奥から東京へと移り住んだ。 生まれ育った環境とは180度違った人の多さに 日々驚愕し続けたが、 時間の経過と共に段々と慣れ、 ひしめき合う人たちを傍観しながらも 絵を描き、また人生を歩んできた。 尋常ではない数の人間にも、 それぞれの親がいてそれぞれの人生があり、 主観や正義を持ち、また喜びや葛藤を抱えながら 生きているのだという事実は 当たり前のようだが、とても不思議でならなかった。 人は脆く傷つきやすい。 どのような人生を歩んでいるのかは、その人にしかわからない。 無数に存在する主人公。 当然のように全ての人が、主人公としてぞれぞれの物語の中を尊く生きている。 物語の途中で、新たな出会いや悲しい別れを繰り返してゆく。 私は、そんな他人が目にすることのできない、 刹那的な人生の一場面や感情を一枚の絵に封じ込めたいと思った。 —– 抜水摩耶 1982年京都府生まれ。東京都在住。 京都芸術大学大学院 芸術表現専攻 修了（元・京都造形芸術大学大学院） 幼少期より強い影響を受けてきた漫画カルチャーは自身の美学を形成し、その表現を用いて執拗に溢れ出るイメージを作品に取り込んで制作する。 国内外で作品発表を重ねる傍ら、アニメーションフェスティバルの参加や、アイドルグループのアートワークを手掛けるなど幅広く活動中。 —– ※ 新型コロナウィルス感染防止対策として、マスクを着用してご来店ください。 ※ ギャラリー内での飲食は固くお断りいたします。 —– WISH LESS gallery is excited to announce the solo exhibition “Protagonist” by Japanese artist Maya Nukimizu, who is known for her works that use manga-like elements and reoccurring aesthetics, such as big eyed characters. She expresses the chaotic world structurally, that contains a mixture of pop and darkness focused on innumerable protagonists in the world. —– PROFILE Maya Nukumizu Born in Kyoto in 1982. Lives in Tokyo. Graduated from Kyoto University of the Arts. Starting from Manga culture, which has been a strong influence since childhood, she formed her own aesthetics and uses that expression to create images that overflow between dreams and reality into her works. Humorous paintings of multi-layered memory fragments that move between the past and present, such as the dangers that prevail in the world, the ghosts that protect you from scary things and the eyes that represent what people see, have a strong impact on the viewer.

The commercial film sector in Japan is predominantly male-dominated. According to Asahi Newspapers, only three percent of film productions by major companies are directed by women. However, a quick look at the independent sector, especially in the field of short animated films, reveals a very different picture. Beginning in the late 2000s and especially in the 2010s, a new generation of women animation filmmakers has boomed. This strong trend in contemporary Japanese film culture is surprisingly neglected by the main cultural discourse. Without a doubt, there is a problem with a system that excludes young, interesting, talented artists creating such smart, energetic, and original works. This selection brings together an eclectic mix of films by young female animation artists using a diverse array of techniques to question gender roles and the image of the female body in Japanese society.
